| Throughout the second half of the 19th century, Matthew and William Cunningham operated their tinsmith shop in this board and batten structure. The Farmer’s and Mechanics’ Institute was dissolved in 1895 and in 1902; the building was acquired from the Cunninghams by the Institute’s successor, the Streetsville Public Library Board. The collection of books was then moved from the Odd Fellow’s Hall and the shop became the home of Streetsville’s first free public library. The books remained here until 1967 when the new library building was constructed at 112 Queen Street as a Centennial project. The Cunningham family also donated the lot directly to the south of the old library, which has been used by the lawn bowling club since 1907. The current use for the Old Library is a Village Hall. |
