20. Tyrone House (1840)
Tyrone House
13 Main Street
Andrew Freeborn purchased this parcel of land from land agent John Embleton in 1837 and built a small one-storey structure to serve as his grocery store. By 1842, the property belonged to partners Robert Ramsay and John Elliot Sterling who operated a hotel called “Tyrone House.” The hotel had several owners over the following two decades, operating for a time under the name “The Exchange Hotel” until the structure ceased to be used as an Inn around 1865. Shortly afterwards, it was remodeled into the two-storey building that it is today.
