| 41 Mill Street |
| Timothy Street, the man after whom the village is named, was a Loyalist
who had lived and worked in St. David’s, near Niagara, for 20 years
before coming to the Credit River area. His family often made trips between
their home in St. David’s and Timothy’s new place of business,
until a permanent residence could be built. The modest home at the base
of Mill Street was said to be the first brick house in the Peel County,
likely constructed out of locally-made red brick and Credit River stone.
It overlooked the site of Street’s saw and grist mill, distillery
and tannery. Although the Street family ceased to be associated with
the mill in the years following Timothy’s death, it is a testimony
to his good judgment, when choosing a site that a mill remained in operation
on the property into the 20th century. |
